As we all know, color is a very subjective thing, and when you add the variability that occurs in the blending and manufacturing of paint, it can get even trickier. That dark green you love on the side of your house may look very different on your new shutters even though the color may in fact be the same. Remember, exterior paint begins to fade from UV rays* almost immediately, so even a surface that was painted in a specific color 6 months ago will have begun to fade already. Whether you are selecting a color from one of our standard 24 paint colors, or we are matching a custom color for you, there will always be slight inconsistencies from paint lot to paint lot. Timberlane considers anything equal to or less than a .75 delta variance, as measured by a spectrophotometer, to be accurate and within specification.
Many things can skew the visual appearance of a paint color, such as sheen and texture. Often times, a paints sheen can cause a color to look slightly lighter or darker in appearance. It is also critical to view paint colors in natural light, as artificial lighting can also skew the appearance of colors. To make this process a bit easier for you, Timberlane maintains actual color swatches painted on both wood and Endurian materials, for each of our 24 standard paint colors. This way you can see the actual color, texture, and sheen painted on the same substrate that your new shutters will be constructed from before you make your final decision.
