Classic Informality

PROJECT OVERVIEW

With its unique blend of traditional Colonial style, modern sophistication and natural beauty, this breathtaking three-story home earned Daniel Contelmo Architects the 2014 Best of Westchester Award for Architecture. The team’s exterior design incorporates stonework and shingle-style elements to create a softer spin on the classic Colonial, and their angled garage wing responds naturally to the contours of the lush surrounding landscape. The European-inspired shutter installation, in which the charcoal-blue custom shutters are hung so that they are angled slightly inward, gives the home a distinctive look full of depth and character.

Inside, the home features a wine cellar, a 19-seat home theater, a billiard room, and special spaces tailored to different generations of the family. With more formal adult rooms — dining room, living room, master suite and office — situated on the front and left sides of the house, the right side houses a basement playroom and children’s bedrooms. Despite the home’s grand size, the Daniel Contelmo team masterfully designed the interior to feel personal and intimate.
